Earth Day // Lets Celebrate Mother Nature

Earth day is right around the corner and with this great weather we have been having in Southern California, we thought we'd share some fun ideas to celebrate this holiday with your kiddos. Children love to know they are helping out and being able to take small steps to improve our heath is such a big deal. So, we hope that these activities will get you and your littles thinking about Mother Nature!

Plant a Tree: The simplest ideas are always the best. So we are challenging you to head on down to your local nursery or hardware store and let your little pick out their favorite tree or plant. This is such a great idea to get out and enjoy Mother Nature together!

Recycle: Set up a conveniently located container or containers for recyclables. It would even be fun to paint or label them with what should be placed inside. Check with your local recycling center for some sorting methods.

Create A Backyard Feast for Birds: This is my favorite idea! Creating bird seed garlands with the kids is such a fun and creative way of giving back to Mother Nature! You can use oranges, apples dipped in peanut butter and bird seeds. I also love the idea of adding home made suet. Here is a simple and easy easy recipe I found.

Ingredients:

  •  1 cup shortening
  •  1 cup peanut butter
  •  1 cup flour
  •  3 cups cornmeal
  •  1/2 cup each of various filler. Ex: bird seeds, oats, dried fruit, or nuts

Instructions:

Combine shortening and peanut butter in a large sauce pan on the stove. Heat until melted, add the flour and cornmeal, and mix well. Add your filler ingredients just until combined.

Spray a cupcake pan with non-stick cooking spray. Press the mixture into the pan. Use a straw to form the hole. Let it set out to dry over night.

String all the pieces onto fishing line then, hang garland in the yard!

Create A Backyard Scavenger Hunt: Your kids will love searching for these items! Plus its a great way to get the kiddo's outside for a hour or two!

We hope this post gave you mama's some great ideas to celebrate our beautiful earth with your littles! Make sure to tag us in your adventures so we can follow along!
